CSUD partners with Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations to promote NMT for Nairobi

With support from the Volvo Research and Education Foundatons, CSUD is partnering with the Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations (KARA) to support initiatives aimed at improving public transport in Kenya. KARA, with support from UNEP, CSUD and FIA Foundation has played a leading role in supporting Nairobi County develop a Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) policy for Nairobi City County. The policy provides a framework for harmonization, prioritization and coordination of NMT infrastructure and facility development and maintenance in Nairobi.

In order to sustain discussions on development and maintenance of NMT facilities in Nairobi; implementation of NMT Policy and integrated public transport, KARA in partnership with Center for Sustainable Urban Development (CSUD) organized a successful stakeholders forum on Wednesday, 23rd May 2018 on the current status of NMT (Policy, Institutional and Infrastructure) and opportunities for its integration in the ongoing transport and road infrastructure development initiatives. This is part of a continuing effort to make Nairobi a safer, more walkable city with bike lanes and sufficient space for non-motorized freight and traders.
