CSUD Associate Research Scholar, Jacqueline Klopp, has delivered an invited talk as part of the fall seminar series at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, (KU Leuven), in Leuven, Flanders, Belgium.  Her talk entitled, “Ifrastructure Power: road building, politics and the future of African cities”, is described below.

“A flurry of road building and other transportation infrastructure investment is occurring in Africa at the same time as many of its cities are growing rapidly. The nature of this infrastructure-whether it is equitable, affordable and improves urban quality- and the power dynamics around it will have long term implications on many cities and how they will evolve well into the future. This talk explored the case of road-building in Nairobi, its dynamics and impacts on the city and its citizens, through the lens of infrastructure power-who has power over this infrastructure and hence part of the future and why.”
